Removing the Fourth Wall is the Future of Porn

Introducing Kitty
This is the first blog post by Kitty. Kitty has been active in the porn industry for years – in a behind the scenes capacity, don’t get your hopes up! – and she recently decided to join the blog to share her experience and write about vr sex, porn and related topics. Welcome Kitty!

For some people seeing how the cake is made ruins their desert, but when it comes to porn I love to get a peek behind the scenes and see what tricks are used to create the art. In some sense it dispels the magic, but it gives you an intimate look into what these people are really like. Also, you can enjoy the team effort that goes into putting out even a short film. As the porn industry shifts gears into Virtual Reality productions the cast and crew at Kink.com are flaming with excitement for the fun challenges of working with a new medium.

Shooting 180° films required complex expensive cameras and powerful software to render but used the same sets, with a director behind the camera. Moving up to 220° FOV gets the viewer even closer to that feeling of being in the film, but vastly changes other aspects of the shoot. KinkVR director Fivestar said, “I don’t want many cuts, because you don’t have cuts in real life.”

The Fourth Wall

What the hell is the fourth wall anyway?
The Fourth Wall is when an actor/actress talks to the camera and crosses the border of film into reality. In VR that means talking directly to you, creating a sense of presence and personal attention.

Porn star Ella Nova and her co-star Bella Rossi were recently interviewed by Wired Magazine’s Brent Rose. Bella points out that the distance the actress’s must keep from the cameras is much farther, “Positions are drastically different for VR porn.” Commenting about the new style Ella said, “We’re all learning this new language together.” She goes on to say how she feels about having cameras following her from 360°, “The future of porn is more interactive, a lot more personal. It’s almost a whole new level of vulnerability exposing yourself on camera. You’re used to having a 2 dimensional camera, (where) you look pretty in that direction.” With the viewer able to experience more of what’s going on there’s nowhere to hide flaws, but that’s what people want. A real erotic experience with a real woman.
